Sarah Anderson

CO-Founder - She/her, they/them

Sarah Anderson is one of the co-founders of Dusty Pants Studio. This brain baby came from a desire for a space to play without limits. No rules, no hierarchy, no capitalistic mindsets - just clay and community for all. It was no coincidence that Sarah's chronic Lyme disease of 20 years sparked a desire to create a space for wellness using creativity. Art therapy is a massively understudied field, and Dusty Pants Studio is here to create room for this topic.

Along with Sarah's personal excitement for the use of art as therapy, the community studio and residency programs are equally impactful. Another of Sarah's goals for Dusty Pants is to change the narrative of "starving artist" to "thriving artist". Indianapolis has great potential to level up it's devotion to local artists, and Dusty Pants is excited to bring more hype and visibility to the artists, and for the artists.

Sarah's long term goal for Dusty Pants Studio is to create a clay play space on multiple acres of land. Picture this: native florals, bee hives, chickens, regenerative farming initiatives, affordable lodging, trees galore, a lake to paddle board with your dog, an art center with all mediums - basically the idea of an "art village". A cult for artists, maybe? You decide.

Sarah's Fun Fact: She can whistle Disney's Robin Hood theme song.

Sarah's Story:

Sarah Anderson is a ceramic artist currently living on the road as she finishes out a 3 year tour teaching her sgraffito technique at over 70 different locations across the country in her renovated camper home and studio. Sarah's current body of ceramic work consists of illustrative characters on the surface of clay through the use of sgraffito. Bright colors and exaggerated creatures are obvious statements in her work, creating a uniquely identifiable brand for herself.

She graduated from Ball State University as a sculpture major, using multiple mediums to create large scale work. She was the ceramic department chair for a non-profit Art Center for three years before leaving to pursue her own work full time in 2021. Her work has been featured around the nation at multiple galleries and studios, winning awards like the Best Teapot for the Strictly Functional Pottery National at the Lancaster, PA Museum in 2021.

Sarah has been featured in many articles and publishers like Ceramics Monthly and Indianapolis Monthly, as well as featured as a demo artist at the Amaco booth during NCECA 2023-25. Sarah now travels and teaches across the country, with the pursuit of opening Dusty Pants Studio - a ceramic studio/residency/art therapy center - alongside Austin Coudriet in Indianapolis, Indiana in the spring of 2026.
