When will you begin accepting applications?
Our studio is projected to open this coming fall/winter of 2026, and we will begin our application process in January of 2028!
How many residents will there be?
We will begin with 2 long term (1 year) and 1 short term (1 to 6 months) residents in September of 2028.
Will there be a stipend or housing?
Starting off, we will only have a stipend with the goal of providing housing in the future! We will be partnering with ceramic companies to sponsor all of our residents financially. More to come on this when we have secured the funding!
What are the prerequisites?
No college level requirements. We're looking for residents who are serious about pursuing a ceramic career and engaged in the community!
What are the responsibilities of the residents at Dusty Pants?
This residency uses a work-trade model - each resident will be asked to work 10 hrs per week in the studio. (studio tech duties or teaching a class) In exchange, residents will have a stipend, studio space, and free firings.
Am I allowed to have a job outside of the residency?
Of course! But we hope to provide a large enough stipend and amble teaching opportunities so this wont be necessary. We want you to focus on your practice!
What kilns will be available?
We will be starting with electric oxidation firings, with the hope of acquiring a gas kiln in the future! We have a large front loading electric kiln for those creating larger work.
